Temple SongstersThe Temple Songster Brigade was founded in 1911 by Mrs. Adjutant Hargrove. These pioneer songsters literally "sat on the steps", as there were no chairs. Practices were held around the pot-bellied stove in the old building on New Gower Street. In 1947 they appeared in full uniform, bonnets included. Television entered their lives in the mid-fifties and the brigade took advantage of this new medium. Their predecessors had used the medium of radio in the late-twenties. The Songsters were proclaiming the message of salvation to their largest audience ever. In 1973 the Temple Songsters received much respect and admiration at the Spring Festival in Toronto. Also in 1973, a brochure titled "Sixtieth Anniversary", a history of the St. John's Temple Songsters, was produced. In 1974 the Songsters first recording, "Singing All the Time", was released. A second recording, "Tell All the People", was released in 1978. |
